Revival Yarns Class Descriptions

 

Private Classes – $20/hr

Materials needed: To be discussed with instructor

Experience required: Varies

Limit: 1 person

We will coordinate a time that is convenient for you and a teacher to work one-on-one. Private classes are a great way to get personalized help for knitters or crocheters of all levels.

First Friday Open Knit/Crochet – FREE, (10am-12 or 5-7pm)

We encourage people to come by Revival Yarns and work on their projects at any time during business hours, but sometimes it’s nice to have something more official. So we’ve set aside the first Friday of each month for open knit/crochet! These meetings are free, and meant to build community among local knitters and crocheters. Bring your current project, get comfy, and mingle with fiber friends both new and old.

Knit 1 – FREE (with purchase of materials), 1 hr

Materials needed: One skein of worsted weight yarn, light color preferred (dark colors are harder to work with)

Needles: Straight needles size 6, 7 or 8

Experience required: None

Limit: 5 people

Knit 1 is a one hour class designed to help you get acquainted with the tools and craft of knitting. In this class you will learn to cast-on stitches, and the knit stitch. This class is FREE with purchase of materials at Revival Yarns (Please save your receipt!).

Knit 2 – $30, 2 hrs

Materials needed: One skein of worsted weight yarn, light color preferred (dark colors are harder to work with)

Needles: Straight needles size 6, 7 or 8

Experience required: Completion of Knit 1 class recommended. Experience with cast-on and knit stitch needed.

Limit: 5 people

Knit 2 is a more in-depth introduction to knitting. You will review casting on and the knit stitch as well as the purl stitch. You will also learn about stockinette and garter stitch patterns. You will discuss the importance of knitting gauge as well as other helpful hints that will give you the confidence to start your own project.

Crochet 1 – FREE (with purchase of materials), 1 hr

Materials needed: One skein of worsted weight yarn, light color preferred (dark colors are harder to work with)

Hook: Size G, H or I

Experience required: None

Limit: 5 people

Crochet 1 is a one hour class introducing you to the basics of crochet. You will learn how to create a basic crochet chain and single crochet stitch, with an introduction to the double crochet stitch. This class is FREE with purchase of materials at Revival Yarns (please save your receipt!).

Crochet 2 – $30, 2 hrs

Materials needed: One skein of worsted weight yarn, light color preferred (dark colors are harder to work with)

Hook: Size G or H

Experience required: Completion of Crochet 1 class recommended. Experience with chain and single crochet stitch needed.

Limit: 5 people

In Crochet 2 you will review chain and single crochet as well as learn the most commonly used stitch, double crochet. You will also be introduced to shell stitch, granny square and slip stitch to work in the round.

Knit Kids (Ages 7-13 yrs) – $15, 1 hr

Materials needed: One skein of worsted weight yarn, light color preferred (dark colors are harder to work with)

Needles: Straight needles size 6, 7 or 8

Experience required: None

Limit: 3 people

Knit Kids is a fun beginning knitting class just for kiddos! They will learn how to cast-on and the knit stitch.

Tunisian Crochet – $15, 1 hr

Materials needed: All materials available for purchase at Revival Yarns. The Simple Seed pattern by Toni Lipsey, 3 balls of Baa Baa Bulky (or equivalent) yarn, and size 8mm (L) crochet hook.

Experience required: Basic crochet skills.

Limit: 5 people

In this class you will learn Tunisian Crochet while working the Simple Seed cowl pattern.

Brioche Knitting – $30, two 1 hr sessions

Materials needed: All materials available for purchase at Revival Yarns. The Basync Brioche Cowl pattern by Meaghan Schmaltz, 3 balls of Ewe So Sporty (or equivalent) yarn, and a US 6 24 inch circular needle.

Experience required: Basic knitting skills.

Limit: 5 people

In this class you will learn the brioche stitch while working the two color Basync Brioche cowl.

Fixing Mistakes – $15, 1 hr

Materials needed: This class requires some knitting homework prior to the class. Please check with us beforehand. You will also need a crochet hook.

Experience required: Basic knitting skills (cast-on, knit, purl, bind-off)

Limit: 5 people

The Fixing Mistakes class will cover how to back-knit, pick up drop stitches, change purls into knits (and vice versa), unravel your work, create life lines and tighten saggy stitches.

Knitting in the Round – $30, two 1 hr sessions

Materials needed: Yarn in either a worsted or bulky weight, 16 inch circular needle, double pointed needles – please contact us for specifics/needle sizes

Experience required: Basic knitting skills (cast-on, knit, purl, bind-off)

Limit: 5 people

This class will be taught in 2 sessions and the students will create a hat. The first session will focus on knitting in the round on a 16″ circular needle. The second session will focus on decreasing with double pointed needles.

Finishing Techniques – $15, 1 hr

Materials needed: This class requires some knitting homework – please check with us beforehand. Please also bring a crochet hook and darning needle.

Experience required: Basic knitting skills (cast-on, knit, purl, bind-off)

Limit: 5 People

In Finishing Techniques you will learn how to join pieces and sew seams. You will be introduced to different types of seam stitches- mattress stitch, backstitch, kitchener stitch, and 3 needle bind off.

Cables – $15, 1 hr

Materials needed: You will be learning cables while you knit the Vanessa Headband! You will need at least 40 yds of a chunky/bulky yarn, US 11 needles, and a cable needle.

Experience required: Basic knitting skills (cast-on, knit, purl, bind-off)

Limit: 5 People

In this class you will learn how to create cables and end up with an awesome headband!

Blocking Basics – $15, 1 hr

Materials needed: It is perfectly okay to simply observe and take notes, but you are also welcome to bring in either a swatch or small finished project you would like to block. You may also bring larger projects if you have specific questions on how to block them.

Experience required: none

Limit: 5 people

Blocking is usually the last step in knitting or crocheting a project. Blocking Basics will provide you with clear instruction on blocking projects, including which yarns are appropriate to block and which are not.

Intarsia Colorwork Class – $15, 1 hr

Materials needed: Yarns (2 different colors), preferably worsted weight, and knitting needles

Experience required: Must be comfortable with basic knitting techniques (cast-on, knit, purl, bind-off).

Limit: 5 people

This class will guide you on how to incorporate blocks of color in knitting projects using the intarsia method.

Fair Isle Colorwork Class – $15, 1 hr

Materials needed: Yarns (2 different colors), worsted weight, preferably wool (not superwash), and US 6 knitting needles

Experience required: Must be comfortable with basic knitting techniques (cast-on, knit, purl, bind-off).

Limit: 5 people

This class with guide you on how to incorporate multiple colors in you knitting projects using the Fair Isle method. You will complete a headband or cowl.

Socks that Fit – $30, two 1 hr sessions

Materials needed: Sock yarn and corresponding double pointed needles (or circular needle if using magic loop method) – please contact us beforehand for help selecting materials if needed. This class also requires some knitting homework, as students need to swatch for gauge prior to the first class (a 4×4 square in stockinette).

Experience required: This is an advanced class. Must be very comfortable with basic knitting techniques (cast-on, knit, purl, bind-off) as well as knitting in the round on double pointed needles. This class is ideally for people who are already familiar with knitting socks, but are interested in learning how to make socks that will custom fit THEIR feet.

Limit: 5 people

Socks that Fit is a 2 session advanced class that will teach students to knit a sock that will actually fit! Session 1 will cover measuring and gauge setup. Session 2 will cover the heel and cuff. Students will need to swatch for gauge prior to class.

Continental Knitting – $15, 1 hr

Materials needed: Yarn and knitting needles

Experience required: This class is for English style knitters who wish to learn the Continental style

Limit: 5 people

English Knitting – $15, 1 hr

Materials needed: Yarn and knitting needles

Experience required: This class is for Continental style knitters who wish to learn the English style
